Whole house install for $139 - Here's the fine print by Andrew Chow Carpet Network 732 617-4009

I like to say good things are not cheap and cheap things are seldom any good, but this is why sales professionals get a bad name and why we at Carpet Network work 80% off of Referrals.  You wonder why dealers resort to bait & switch tactics.  No need to be an expert, ask yourself this - If you spend $3000 on carpet what kind of labor can $139 buy to install the carpet -  normally 11 steps cost you $150.

Here are the variables that go into your cost per square feet/(did by 9 for sy), Rip up and/or haul ...<< MORE >>

POLICY ON FLOORING PURCHASES MADE VIA THE INTERNET

At Mannington Mills, we are committed to providing our customers with the highest quality flooring and best service in the industry. In order to protect that mission, our products are sold through a network of authorized Mannington dealers in the United States and Canada. To that end, we have become aware of a growing number of consumers who have had unsatisfactory experiences as a result of purchasing flooring via the Internet.

The Internet is a useful tool for researching companies and the products they make. Mannington's website, for example, offers product information as well as a state-of-the-art room visualizer to assist in the flooring selection process. However, when it comes to the purchase, there is no substitute for personal, professional service and installation. Flooring is a substantial investment, and we highly recommend that consumers purchase flooring from a local Mannington retailer in order to get the best service both during and after the sale.

We urge you to consider the following points before you make a Mannington flooring purchase:
  1. Professional installation is key to the long-term performance of your Mannington floor, and key to your satisfaction. The number one cause of consumer dissatisfaction with flooring performance and appearance is poor installation. Mannington retailers have access to a network of professional installers who are proficient in installing all of our flooring products.

  2. Mannington cannot and will not guarantee that flooring purchased over the internet is 'first-quality'. Only first-quality merchandise is covered by Mannington's product warranty. Keep in mind that a price that seems "too good to be true" probably is exactly that – too good to be true.

  3. Finally, please consider more than just price when selecting a new floor. Consider the value of advice from trained salespeople; the beauty of professional installation; and the peace of mind knowing that you have a local businessperson to call on with any future questions about your purchase.
If you have any questions or would like further information please call 1-800-482-9527 or CLICK HERE for the email form.

Preparing for Installation submitted by Andrew Chow, Carpet Network 732 617-4009

Preparing for Installation Day

Existing Flooring Removal:

If you now have wall-to-wall carpet, it will need to be removed.  You can pull up the existing carpet, cushion, staples and tack strip.  If your current carpet is glued down, there is a little more work to do, as any residual needs to be scraped up.  If you prefer, we can remove your existing carpet for a nominal charge.

If you now have hard surface flooring (vinyl sheet goods, vinyl tile, ceramic, hardwood or laminate flooring) we will need to evaluate the situation and give specific recommendations according to flooring type.

Furniture Removal:

Please remove all valuable and breakable items from any room that we will be working in.  Better to be safe than sorry!  Also, remove as many small items (including bedding and all items from the closet shelf down) from the room as possible.   In kitchens and utility rooms please disconnect all appliances. Our installers cannot be responsible for disconnecting and reconnecting.

Left Over Hardwood:

Prefinished hardwood flooring is sold by the full carton.  It is inevitable that there will be some pieces left over.  Store them in a dry place in case a repair becomes necessary in the future.

 Show You Care

After your hardwood floor is installed, you’ll need to care for it.  Doing so isn’t difficult or time consuming but there are things that you will need to keep in mind.

Water, spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor’s finish in spite of today’s technological advances.  Floors should be swept or vacuumed as needed and spills wiped up as they occur.  Use only the manufacturers recommended cleaner.  It works best with the finish, leaves behind no residue and protects both the floor and the warranty.  Never wet-mop or flood your floor with water, as this can severely damage the flooring and will void all warranties.

Take precautions at pivot areas and under tables and chairs by considering these as good places for area rugs.  Having the proper felt pads or glides are important in protecting the finish and preventing problems before they occur.  Hardwood floors in foyers or areas that have exterior doors also need protection.  Placing walk-off mats just outside helps prevent dirt and debris from being brought in.

What You Should Know About Hardwood Floors submitted by Andrew Chow, Carpet Network of Morganville 732 617-4009

What You Should Know About Hardwood Floors

We want your new hardwood floor to look fabulous.  To insure that all goes as smoothly as possible, we have compiled some helpful tips that you should be aware of.  The better prepared and informed that you are, the smoother things will go and the sooner you can enjoy your new hardwood floor.

Characteristics of Hardwood Floors:

Each board of natural hardwood flooring is entirely unique due to characteristics such as grain patterns, mineral streaks, small knots and color variations.

Relative Humidity:

Wood is a natural product that expands and contracts at different times during the year. Maintaining proper humidity levels, within a normal range of 35% to 65%, will help minimize the effect of too much or too little airborne moisture.  If you’re not sure about how to keep a watch on humidity levels, you can buy a thermal hygrometer from any hardware store.

Radiant Heat:

Radiant floor heating usage must be in accordance with the manufacturer’ installation instructions.

Photosensitivity:

All woods are affected by light.  Both natural sunlight and artificial lighting can change the color or appearance of a floor over time.

Hardness of Hardwood:

Just because one species is harder than another doesn’t mean it won’t dent or scratch; all hardwoods will dent or scratch when given enough applied pressure or resistance.

The Importance of a Reliabe Furnace

Today is January 15, 2009 at 6:50 pm.  In most of New Jersey it is currently twenty degrees and tonight will get down to the single diggets.  According to the wheather man this temperature trend will last for the next fews day.  If there is ever a good reason to know that your furnace is working in top condition i think that 0-10 degrees is the best you can get.  When it is thirty degrees out side, your house can stay around 45-50 degrees with out heat for a few days.  That will keep pipes from freezing and causing serious ...<< MORE >>

How much do you know about Honeywell Thermostats

If your thermostat is from the late 1980's and has remnants of every color paint that room has been painted the last twenty years maybe it's time for an upgrade.  An old thermostat not only has a dated look to it but it is not doing you any good.  The temperature may not be accurate and it does not contain any technology that will help you save money.  So by changing your thermostat you are not only improving the look of your wall but the money spent will pay itself back be for you know it.
There is a great variety of thermostats from Honeywell.  As a heating and cooling company owner Honeywell is the only thermostat that i will use. Whether you get the standard Pro 2000 or splurge and get the Pro 8000 IAQ you are sure to be getting a very quality thermostat.  Every Honeywell thermostat is Energy Star rated.  Also you get a 5 year warranty.
The Pro 2000 is Honeywell's most standard thermostat.  If you aren't looking for a fancy thermostat then this is your best choice.  It's basic operation and easy to use controls makes it ideal for many home owners.
The Pro 4000 is the next step up and allows you to program a schedule into your thermostat.  This will give you control to raise or lower the temperature at specific times depending on the need for heat or air conditioning.  The Pro 4000 allows you to schedule a Monday through Friday and a Saturday/Sunday option.
Now if you want a thermostat that is going to make a difference in your gas and electric bills plus add some pizazz to your wall then the Pro 8000 is the right choice for you.  The Pro 8000 gives you control of every day Monday through Sunday.  It has reminders for changing your air filter or humidifier filter.  It has a big touch screen with easy to read numbers and a continuous back light.  The best feature is the Adaptive Intelligent Recovery.  The thermostat learns how long it takes to raise the temperature according to your daily schedule.  By using all the features the Pro 8000 has to offer Honeywell states on their web page that you can save 33% on your gas and electric bills.
The upgraded version of the Pro 8000 is the Pro 8000 IAQ.  If you have a furnace with a whole house humidifier or a dehumidifier or a hepa system and want to control it from one location then this is your only choice.  The Pro 8000 IAQ has all the controls as the Pro 8000 with the addition of a control interface module.
So if you want an easy to use, reliable thermostat made by a company you can trust any of your choices would be a good one.

Internet, Stores, Flooring Dealers and my uncle's friends nephew the contractor by Andrew Chow 732 617-4009

These are the most common questions, hope this helps.

Dealers that advertise price per sq. ft. and advertise next day installation and internet "so called suppliers" (dealers are not allowed to list price on the website for ethical/professional reasons) normally causes this type of concern and problems as they are in the volume business which causes the quality and customer service to drop. "Speed, Quality or Price" - pick one! If you simply ask or research your installer for Liability Insurance and/or a copy of his Department Consumer Affairs (DCA) License that is required by Law, not only will you avoid problems, but you will have his business name and address if a problem arises.

Flooring Dealers sell flooring materials(Carpet, Hardwood, Tile, Vinyl, Cork - basically anything that covers your floor) and normally recommends installers as they are not involved with the measurements or installation.

Internet stores (ifloors.com filed chp 11protection) and liquidators sell left over, remnant or substandard materials therefore it is half the price of standard or US made products, "business 101 no free lunch".  Internet stores has high shipping rates, curbside delivery or you have to pick up the materials yourself.  The nightmare begins when the materials arrives in different colors and half the material are usable because it was 50% off and they don't carry transitions because the product is from China.  There are only two species of Bamboo that can be used for Flooring (both are no used for Panda food too hard, no animal rights calls please), unfortunately it cost just as much as Oak if not more - but it is "Green. Contact me for more info. "Good luck calling the manufacturer to claim the defect - see the blog below.

Workrooms and Installers must carry the proper Insurance and License to install for Dealers and Box stores.  Workrooms install for the large box stores as these Mega Stores warehouse everything from grocery, electronics to flooring.  They have a customer service department that handle your delivery to installation of electronics to home additions.

Installers (extended vans with out of town plates), are licensed sub contractors for workrooms and when they complete their apprenticeship, they work for upper scale stores and custom installers.

Handyman/Barber's, uncle's, friend's cousin - are normally weekend contractors that either have to sharpen their saw from last month's floor job, or your ex-friends, friend showed up a week late, has 3 hours of excuses and now needs to ask you for up front money to get gas and to rent equipment from the box store - after you map quest the direction for him.  Their knowledge, tools and materials sources are limited therefore you get a great price with the headaches.

If you are new to the area or do not have any friends that can refer you to a trusted source - since you found this site, you can work directly with a local installer/tradesman, someone that can meet your needs from concept to completion as we do this for a living "full-time" and we live in your neighborhood.  Chances are, you will see the installer/contractor again at your local community shopping or civic centers.

Carpet Network - Servicing Monmouth County - Carpet, Hardwood, Tile, Cork, Laminate and many more!

this was copied from an existing blog, it would make more sense if you read from bottom up - hope this helps you avoid being a victim - Buyer Beware - sometimes it is not the supplier - it is the customer wanting something that does not exist and unwilling to get the knowledge themselves but rather ask a friend that know less than they do about floors!!!

Roberta, You and I have communicated about your order in length. What I am indicating to you is that normal wear includes scratches, and if you examine any warranty on any product you will not find that it covers scratches or denting. This is especially true in a natural product such as carbonized bamboo. The reason for this is because scratches and denting will inevitably occur, almost regardless of the pre-cautions taken. I know that you have pets, and I know that you have indicated that your pets have been manicured to reduce the impact of their claws on your floor, however they will still have an impact on your floor's appearance. Additionally wearing shoes itself does not typically cause a change in appearance, but when shoes interact with a foreign substance on your floor there is the chance to affect your floors appearance. When furniture is moved, it has the opportunity to affect your floors appearance. So no, I am not saying that you should be grateful that you did not have to pay "the imbecile" who inspected your floor. I am simply stating that we have done everything we can do to ensure that you are confident in your new purchase, however we have been unable to do this successfully. I understand that you would like to have compensation in the amount of 400.00 for this reason, and I am simply stating that while I value your business with us and your opinion of our company, I am unable to provide such a substantial sum, given that we have already paid 150.00 to have an independent agent look at your floor against our recommendation (due to the concern that it would not be found to be a valid claim) when our normal policy is to ask for payment on an inspection when the expected out come is non defective as this one was. I do not expect you to "roll over and play dead", I am simply asking for you to review the service you have received, the pricing of the product, the nature of your concern, and then determine if you truly believe that we are a disreputable company. Scratches on a natural floor can and do occur through normal use of the floor, part of the value in the product you purchased is that you will be able to sand and refinish your floor in the future to reduce the visible effects that you have noticed already. We truly do wish that we could accede to your demands, however, we have a duty to all of our customer's to stay in business to warranty our products for valid claims. If we provided credit to each of our customer's whose floors now have scratches, I am afraid that no flooring company would be in business. You have threatened litigation, and you have threatened to post (what I would assume is negative) feed back if we do not accede to your demands. I ask that you take the action you find to be most appropriate, as a consumer you have rights. We as company have those same rights. I work for an ethical company, one who prides itself on doing what is right. I am proud to say that about our company and I stand by the decision being made here. Dennis

July 6, 2006 - Consumer Message:

Buyer BEWARE!! This company sold me bamboo flooring that their advertising states is 27% harder than hardwood. I had the flooring installed and it looked beautiful......until it was walked on. I have two dogs that are groomed and have their nails trimmed and filed regularly. Every inch of this floor is scratched just from them WALKING on it. I contacted the company and they tried to make me pay for an inspector to come and look at it. I refused. The inspector came (at their cost....gee, isn't that how a legitimate business does it?) and came up with this far fetched idea that my dining room chairs were scratching the floor. Never mind the fact that they have not been used once since the floor was laid, they have protective sliders on them, and the floor is scratched over the entirety and not just where the chairs are. Now the company is refusing any responsibility and is denying my request for compensation of any kind. They seem to think that it is perfectly normal and acceptable to shell out almost $3000 for a floor that will not take normal wear for one day. That is how long it took the scratches to start appearing. Save your sanity. At least when you deal with Home Depot they respond to your problems. At Ifloor.com they just kick you to the curb and say "tough luck." And then they have the nerve to say that they pride themselves on "world class customer service." Buyer, BEWARE!!!!

I work for a wholesale floor covering store in southern california. While not a real fan of any internet flooring dealer, I must defend them to a point. All flooring products have an inherent negative to them. Wood and laminate will scratch, tile can crack and carpet will stain and wear out eventually. No manufacture will warranty it's product from normal wear and tear. I suggest to the consumer's out there planning on purchasing a floor to go to their local flooring dealer. Not a home center, but a dealer that has a trained and intelligent sales staff that will guide you to the most beneficial flooring for your lifestyle. I would have to agree that they don't have such great customer service as they claim they do. I ordered a laminate floor sample and never received it. I really liked the color i saw online & the price but i guess i won't be calling their company again if they can't even send out a simple sample order. All there floors are made in third world countries.

I bought a floor and it was from china. And the material workmanship is crap. Do not buy from this store!

Ifloor sells crappy floors. Then they give you a big run around when you try to return there product.

If I don't get 100% satisfaction I will be reporting them to my states Attorney general and hiring and attorney and sue them.
